Welcome .... strap on a seatbelt.... its gonna be a wild LIFE!

You must be brave to listen to the ramblings of me! Thank you ahead of time for making time to read me. I hope to share what is on my heart and make you smile , laugh, and think along the way. I KNOW only what I have learned so far. I am still learning what I don't know. Be patient. Hahaha! That is what I love about Grace. Freedom to embrace our Savior when we make mistakes in learning how to be who He has already said we are! Walk with me and I will promise you it will be rough terrain, but I wont give up if you wont. See you at the finish line.

Love, Angela

Counting it all joy ten years later!

Ten years since I've held my third son. Ten long hard years. Whats more is who knows how many more I have left to go, until I will see him again. Talk about a heartbreaking way to learn patience! When i was pregnant with Levi, there was a verse that continued to perplex and trouble me. James 1:2 Consider it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. On the day when I thought I would never feel joy again, I did. When I was at the very bottom of despair, I looked up and realized all hope was not lost. Levi was not dead. My son is alive and he is with Jesus and not only that my friends but that I will see him again ONLY BECAUSE God gave up His son to die would I now be able to forever be with my beautiful baby. Talk about JOY! I finally understood, comprehended  and experienced first hand that verse that had trouble me for so long.
Fast forward ten years to today. I am reading a book called, A Call to Die, by David Nasser. Its broken down into 40 days. Each day begins with a verse that the following story expounds on. I took that book and my Bible to the cemetery and sat down in the grass above my baby's name. I opened the book and decided to go on and read tomorrow's day because I wanted a fresh word. May I tell you that the words leapt off of the page at me. God is amazingly personal and He cares more about us and our pain more than we could ever imagine. Here is proof. The verse that I read was.... James 1:2 Consider it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. WOW! I think God was saying, " ten years , Wow! Keep going daughter, you can do it! God , thank you for building my trust in YOU over these last ten years! YOU Abba, deserve the best , thank you for always being there and and protecting me. Ate Logo Levi!

Life is meant to be lived, so be CONSPICUOUS!

Who are we to hide and become INconspicuous? God did not make us to be invisible! He breathed life into us to show His glory through our lives. Humility is not self depravity. There is a significant difference. God desires our best and He wants to flow through us and point others to Him and how can we do that by remaining in bondage to the idea that we are not good enough? Shall we believe the lies that tell us that we are not worthy of love? The lie that says if we were more this or more that or less this or less that then we would experience the love our heart so hungrily desires? God's love is UNCONDITIONAL AND FOREVER! He is enough to satisfy the deepest needs of our hearts! When He sets you free... OH goodness YOU ARE FREE! Stand up and Glorify God today! LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE my friend, so that men may see your good works and glorify NOT YOU but your father who is in heaven! :) YOU ARE LOVED!

The Egg

Sometimes we are touched by people in so many ways that are very unique.
Each person we have any relationship with for quite sometime is never forgotten.
You see, each one of us have a special meaning of existing on this earth with God.
Life is really very short on this plane even though we may feel it is long to us.
Most people look at what they can get out of life,  not what they can do with it.

We usually look at the outside of people instead of what's inside each person.
There will always be someone in our life that will always be with us til our end.
This world is not ours and we can not live forever here, we all will leave someday.
It's not who we are on the outside that everyone can always see with their eyes.

If everyone in this world would treat everyone else as if they were themselves.
Then they would not tend to be so selfish in their thoughts and their actions.
To truly care about someone, this emotion must naturally come from your spirit.
God has chosen each and every one of us to have a special role on this earth.

The shell that we are in now is either hard, medium, or soft on the outside.
Sometimes people are so hard on the outside that you can't tell what's inside.
Then there is the one that sometimes may show you but not very often.
And the ones that are willing to pour out to you what's inside, True Love.

His plan was laid out for each one of us before we were even born into this world.
But we are given a choice, to either follow the road to Him or without Him.
What we have is a soul, our inner spirit inside of us, given to us from God.
Someday God the Father will judge us from within like The Egg.

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I love this poem, but also makes me very sad to think we cant travel both roads. I hate to leave something undiscovered. We are forced to make choices in life and we cant turn back around and go see what we missed. Sometimes, that could be a very merciful thing I suppose. Looking at my children I see them and wonder what road they will choose for their lives. How will the choices I make influence theirs and that can be an overwhelming thought. Thank God that in the end I know that He is able to override all my mistakes, shortcomings, and ineptness and that He alone can speak like only God can.... and reach down to the depth of my children's hearts and engage them and invite them to follow Him. Because of what He does in me, they in turn reap any rewards from my faithfulness. Likewise, my unfaithfulness overflows too which I try not to think so much about.
Nevertheless, we all at some point begin making our own choices. Thats the scary part of parenting. Knowing when to let go and allow them to fall down and get back up again. I think honestly, nothing about letting go comes naturally to me as a mother. There have been more days than I can count when I have asked myself if God made a huge mistake when He entrusted these young men into my care. I guess just their being here is answer enough huh? Well, in that case, I will pick myself up and dust myself off and do the best I can and leave the rest up to more capable hands than mine. God.... they are yours.... teach them how to choose wisely. You see both roads, guide them down the one less taken. All I ask is to be allowed to stand along the side and cheer them on to their destiny and give YOU all the glory.

Forever Home

When you feel the world rise up against you....
         Go Home
When you have lost or forgotten your purpose....
         Go Home
When pain threatens to drown you in its ocean....
         Go Home
When your mind seems muddled and questions reign....
         Go Home
When your heart is crushed and torn apart....
         Go Home
When sadness rolls in as an ominous storm
         Go Home
When you cant explain the how and whys
         Go Home
When you need to be held and picked back up
         Go Home
When and only when your race is run
Then and only then, you will hear..." Well done..."
The God you love declares the final battle won
While you will be safely resting in the Son
    Forever ....... Home!

Winter Treasures...... for someone who hates winter.... :)

Looking out my window at the gray winter sky, the snow covering the ground and the trees. I can't believe i am gonna say this, but yes... it looks beautiful! The bleakness brings a certain calmness with it. It feels good to relax and not feel hurried about driving here and there. Thank goodness we live in Tennessee where everything stops when we get snow. hahahha! Hot chocolate and hot coffee and warm fires in fireplaces. Reading books and being lazy are favorite winter activities I love. The kids coming in with runny noses and pink cheeks with big smiles excitedly telling sledding stories. The tingly feeling of when your skin starts to thaw out after being outside. The cozyness of being inside knowing that the blessing of a home is a gift to treasure.I will admit that winter might not be so bad after all. Happy Winter!

The sky is falling.... wait ... thats not the sky, those are birds!!!!

3000 birds fell from the sky! This simply can not be explained away in my estimation. What a freaky thing to happen, and all shortly before midnight on New Years Eve. I did a search and came up with quite a funny story written by a complete stranger. I sense a spiritual disturbance... if you will. I bet Al Gore will be  trying to profit  of this so I decided to head him off and do some reading. This is what I found. Read THIS......

The Real Story of Chicken Little™

Examplene fine spring day, Chicken Little awoke, and before going out for his morning seed, he looked outside his window. The snow on his roof was melting and the eaves were covered with long dripping icicles.
"Oh my gosh, the Earth is warming," he cried! I must tell someone.
Poor Chicken Little was less than a year old, and nobody ever told him that it got warmer every spring. He got on his motor scooter, and sped off down the road.
Henny Penny was outside pecking at seed. "Henny Penny, the earth is warming," cried Chicken Little! "I saw it! All the snow on my roof is melting!"
"Why, you're right, said Henny Penny." I thought it felt warmer today." Henny Penny was much older than Chicken Little and she could feel the weather in her bones. "We must tell someone!" They both got into Henny Penny's Corvette, and sped off down the road.
They drove down the road until they ran into Turkey Lurkey.
"Turkey Lurkey, the Earth is warming." they cried! "Chicken Little saw it, and Henny Penny felt it in her bones!"
"Nonsense," said Turkey Lurkey. "Why look here at my Turkey thermometer. It's as steady as a rock."
"But maybe it's warming so slow that we can't see it move," said Chicken Little.
"Well then, we'll do a scientific experiment."
He looked at the thermometer. It read 40 degrees. He then put the thermometer under his wing so nobody could see it, and pulled out his pocket watch. "We won't look at it for five minutes, and see if it has changed."
When he took it out from under his wing it was almost 100 degrees. "Oh my," said Turkey Lurkey, "It's warming at such a rapid rate, that it will be a thousand degrees in less than an hour if we don't do something."
So they all got into his Volvo station wagon, and went driving down the road at a very high rate.
They ran into Ducky Lucky. "Ducky Lucky, the Earth is warming," they cried! "Chicken Little saw it, Henny Penny felt it, and Turkey Lurkey proved it with science!"
"Well if we don't do something, we'll surely all be roasted," said Ducky Lucky. "That's what happens when birds get too warm, they all get roasted."
"Whatever will we do," they cried? "None of them had ever been roasted before, but it didn't sound very nice.
"We should tell the King," said Ducky Lucky! "Come on, we can all fit into my truck!" So they climbed into Ducky Lucky's truck and headed towards the palace.
Further down the road they met Foxy Woxy. "Foxy the Earth is warming," they all cried! "Chicken Little saw it, Henny Penny felt it, Turkey Lurkey proved it, and Ducky Lucky is certain that we'll all be roasted."
Foxy Woxy stroked his beard and thought for a while. He leaned his white paw on the hood of Ducky Lucky's truck. It was very warm. He looked at the truck, and looked at the birds and said.
"Why it's probably your cars that are causing the Earth to get warmer. I think you should stop driving right now."
The weren't sure if that made any sense. Foxy Woxy was not a scientist, but he was a recent graduate of the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. He certainly had a much higher degree than any of them.
They got out of the truck. "But how will we get to see the King?"
"Don't worry about the King," said Foxy Woxy. "I'm good friends with him, I'll talk to him for you." He got into Ducky Lucky's Truck and drove off.
So Ducky Lucky, Turkey Lurkey, Henny Penny and Chicken Little all turned around and walked home. When they got home, they saw that Foxy Woxy had towed away, Turkey Lurkey's Volvo, Henny Penny's Corvette, And Chicken Little's Motor Scooter. "As long as it stops the Earth from warming" they all agreed.
The next day, there was a knock at Chicken Little's door. It was Foxy Woxy. "The King said that your wood stove is causing the Earth to get warmer too. He assigned me to gather up all your firewood to save us all from roasting."
"But what if it gets cold again," asked Chicken Little? "Certainly it is better to roast than to freeze."
But Foxy Woxy wouldn't hear of it. He gathered up all Chicken Little's firewood, and threw it into the back of Ducky Lucky's truck, which now had "Foxy, Woxy, and Associates" painted on the door. He drove on down the road and took all the firewood from Ducky Lucky, and Henny Penny, and Turkey Lurkey, as well. They wanted to ask if it was really on orders from the King, but because they now had no cars, they couldn't go anywhere. Still they agreed, it was better than roasting.
That night, there was a blizzard, and Ducky Lucky, Turkey Lurkey, Henny Penny, and Chicken Little all froze to death. The next morning, Foxy Woxy loaded them all into Ducky Lucky's truck, which had a new sign painted on the door, "Foxy, Woxy, and Associates. Purveyors of Firewood and Frozen Poultry."
And they ended up getting roasted after all.

A new year..... A new beginning

New Years is always a reflective time for me and for most people I suppose. I have mixed emotions about the ending of a year and the beginning on a new one. Its always refreshing to let go of all the bad things that happened. Its realizing that you are also moving farther from the good things, that brings the sudden blue feeling. It's the same feeling I get when I come across kindergarten art work from my 8th grader. Saying goodbye to a place in time you will only revisit in memories is a strange and sometimes overwhelming sensation. Have you ever been impressed with the fact that since God is omniscient, He knows what the next year holds? More than ever, I am glad to not know. Realizing that part of what makes life exciting is not knowing where you are going or what life holds for me, has slowly become a soothing and comforting concept for me. Whereas , once I held on tightly to my illusion of having control of my life, I  now find peace in letting go and floating on God's sailboat.
Life is meant to be lived. Life is meant to be enjoyed, dare I say, even savored. To feel the highs and lows and go through the changes that life inevitably brings to us all and in the midst of the chaos of holding on to the only anchor that doesn't move.... we find out that He, God, is our only CONSTANT. He doesn't move, or change, or evolve. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever! 2010 will slip into the  past, while 2011 becomes the now. Let that thought, that TRUTH live in your heart and mine in the New Year as we all face an uncertain future with a certain God who knows it all before we get there. Let a New Year allow us the freedom to hope for things we dared not to hope for before. To dream bigger dreams than we have dreamt  before. Let us celebrate that God has made us NOT to know what lies ahead so that we may in the beauty of our humanness hope ... just HOPE for more. Who knows? God could have placed those very dreams in our heart so that when He fulfills them we will truly KNOW GOD and see Him in His Glory and leave our puny dreams behind and grasp the vision of HIS GLORY. Happy New Year friends! May our lives bless God, and may God bless 2011!

When you mess up...........

Making a mistake shows the depth of our humanity. The forgiveness of those around you shows the height of mercy. The only appropriate response is gratefulness. The hardest part in the aftermath of your mistake is attempting to forgive yourself. Especially if your mistake had an all too often ripple effect on those around you. This is the part that I struggle with most and dare say I'm not the only one. Not to say I am quick to forgive when someone else hurts me. However, I feel honestly that I have considerably an easier time forgiving them than myself. My question is.... WHY?
If I can dole out grace and have enough love and mercy for others mistakes, then why do I hold myself to this unrealistic expectation that I should be perfect? Loving NFL football the way I do, Michael Vick comes to mind. He had one of the best games of his career this weekend. Talk about redemption! For those of you who are not familiar with him, he is the quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. He served 18 months in prison for being in charge of a dog fighting ring. He is now on probation for 3 years during which he may not own a dog. Michael Vick showed poised leadership when his team was considerably behind going into the 4th quarter. He played a huge part in getting his team a victory which no one thought could happen. Redemption had at last come for Michael Vick. At least in the arena of public opinion. I can't help but wonder if he has forgiven himself. I hope for his sake that he has. Knowing firsthand the agony of self-loathing, I wish for everyone the relief of self-forgiveness.
I know with my heart that being a Christian is to be CHRIST focused, not me focused. As such.... just as being prideful would be a sin, being focused on hating your mistakes and hating yourself is just as sinful and in effect tells Jesus that his death was in vain. I find it difficult to remain in the peaceful hammock of God's grace. Seems like I flip out of it quite often in fact. I want to be perfect, and one day I will be. The sanctification process will be complete when i die and I will not fail myself anymore, those that love me, and most importantly the God who loves me and the Savior who freed me. For now... my plan is to try to focus on Christ and not me.... not my successes which i should always attribute to the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit nor my failures which are too many to number. As Paul said, ( i think its Paul ) the Spirit is willing and the flesh is weak. As Michael Vick should say, I forgive myself, because Christ forgave me and now I am worth following on more than fantasy football. Today, I will forgive me and move on with Jesus. At least I will try to. :)

How to catch snowflakes on your tongue.....

The blanket of snow that fell down onto our neighborhood Sunday reminded me of being a child and the excitement that came along with looking out the window and seeing the wonder of my world turned white. Dad used to come into my room and tell me in his adorable, childlike, excited way that it had snowed so much that it was up to the roof. Most times though , the snow barely covered the grass. I was still filled with a happiness i couldn't explain and really still can't. It had snowed and in Tennessee what that translates to is NO SCHOOL!
I also remember dad taking us sledding one time. We had the best time together sliding down that hill on that sled. My dad was never afraid to have fun. I love that about him. We went so fast when he was on the back and i laughed a lot more. Everything kind of stops when it snows here and we go buy up all the milk and bread in all the grocery stores because we have an unfounded fear of being snowed in our houses for weeks when usually the snow is gone by noon. Let me tell you how cool it is when your dad after buying milk and bread takes you to an empty parking lot to do wicked awesome donuts in his Ford Bronco! These are the memories that stick with us and comfort us when we become adults with financial obligations that attempt rob us of the joy of making snow angels and catching snowflakes on our tongues. Thank you dad for the memories! I love you!

To Hoverers Everywhere.....Be a sweetie.... Wipe the seatie !!!!!

I have a bone to pick with all you hoverers out there. There is a moment I have had all too often in my life that I would love a chance to blog about. I am referring to the horrendous times when I realize that I just sat down in a stranger's pee. WHY? WHY does this happen in the age of indoor plumbing, hand sanitizer, motion sensor faucets and paper towel dispensers? This should not be ladies! It has been proven that toilet seats do  not transmit diseases and sitting down will not give you a disgusting skin infection and no one has ever reported a death that has occurred after sitting to pee in a public restroom. SO, my question is this.... WHY MUST YOU HOVER and PEE ALL OVER THE SEAT? Ok, so you would prefer not to sit on the seat.... wonderful! After sitting in your pee I have considered your way of peeing and almost converted to your way of life ! hahah! In the end though I have become a stubborn "sitter". Go ahead and hover away why don't you. Go ahead and get thighs of steel and become a bathroom acrobat. I don't care! However, if you hover and have bad aim and get pee on the seat.... for rational sitters everywhere... wipe your own irrational pee off the seat! Is that too much to ask? I mean seriously, how considerate are you being that, John forbid, YOU sit on the seat but then instead hover with bad pee aim and leave pee all over where a normal pee-er will sit down and experience the mind numbing rage that comes along with this inhuman offense! I beseech ye therefore.... please, if you're gonna hover .... be a sweetie and wipe the seatie!   Thank you and may God bless you!

Ode to Rudy Jones :)

I love our dog Rudy! He makes our lives so much better. He follows me around the house like I am his everything, hence making me feel very special. His should have been Shadow for obvious reasons. I had no idea that he would be my sidekick when I first met him. We brought him home when he was 6 months old and thank God had already been housebroken and pretty much out of the puppy stage. His name was Rupert. Yeah... I know! Pfft... sounds like a snobby dog to me. As I am a people person ( anti-snob ), that name didn't suit my fancy. Of course since he was a Christmas gift to the kids from Mark's mom, I recruited the boys in changing his name. Being that it was Christmas... they wanted to name him Rudolph. They were feeling festive what can we say?  My anti-snob radar went off though, so I suggested Rudy for short. I love the Football movie Rudy. Also, I have always had a thing for two syllable dog names. Good for calling them to ya. RUUUU    DYYYY!
Rudy is always happy to see me, his little bobbed off  tail wags furiously when I walk in the door. He is not disappointed with me when I don't perform to my potential. He can't sass me. He doesn't require a bath everyday.... WOOHOO! He doesn't make me cook for him. He snuggles with me when I am sitting which seems like for 5 minutes a day. He is not annoying, but is there when you wanna hang out with him and throw his sheep for him to fetch. HE IS THE MOST LOW MAINTENANCE LIVING THING IN THE HOUSE. He barks when people come to the door which is helpful because with all the Tv's on in the house we would never know until they broke through the door with a battering ram. HAHAHAHAH! He is also beautifully trimmed and stays very clean, ( he can be a uppity about getting dirty). He is soft and very hairy, which as a person who loves to have my hands in hair, meets my tactile , freakish need. He is never demanding, but attentive. I don't think... but I know........

MY DOG IS BETTER THAN YOUR DOG!

Giving Thanks for ALL things? Really?

Thank you God for that speeding ticket. Thank you for losing my keys again. Thank you for spaghetti on the floor. Thank you for being rejected. Thank you for the pain. Thank you for not answering that prayer the way I desired. Thank you for saying no to the biggest prayer of my life.
If you are thinking.... I have finally went over the edge and lost my mind. Too late! That has been the case for a very long time now. hahahahhah! I saw that! Some of you that know me well, just shook your head in agreement. Shame on you. hahahahah! Why does Paul say.... we should give thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,...?
Seems crazy to thank God for the bad stuff. I remember reading a book about Corrie Ten Boom's life in the Nazi concentration camps where they were experiencing an infestation with lice. She told how they would torment them day and night, making them itch and scratch mercilessly. Her sister told Corrie they should thank God for all things, even the lice. Corrie was not welcoming to the idea of thanking God for the lice but heard her sister say those very words in a prayer of her own. Later Corrie discovered that the male guards were sexually assaulting the other women in the other buildings, but because of the infestation of lice, none of the guards would even go into their building. God used the lice to protect the women. The very thing that drove them crazy was the very thing that protected them from further heartache. Fascinating isn't it?
Could God be using the not so pleasant, or even heart breaking circumstances in our life to protect us from something worse? Could my speeding ticket get my attention to keep me from being habitually reckless? Could losing my keys be an opportunity for my boys to feel useful when they find them for me? Could spaghetti on the floor be a lesson in encouraging the one who dropped it? Could rejection be teaching us how to love like God loves? Could the pain be teaching us endurance and dependence on an all sufficient God? Could the prayer God answered His way have prevented us from living with the consequences getting our own way? Finally, could God's  "no"  response to a prayer I was certain was His hearts desire to grant, have been His Best for me and those I love?
Since there are " some "  answers that our Sovereign Lord will not reveal to us until we get home, at the very LEAST, thanking God in all things changes our attitude from unappreciative and self centered into one of gratitude and a positive perspective which is indicative of anticipating good things from a good God. At the Most ..... and for me the most humorous.... you get those weird looks from people who are sure that you have lost your mind! Seriously.... God can show them what trusting Him and authentic faith looks like.... when you don't have all the answers. So.... thank God for something that sucks today and see how you feel!

Love, Angela

Walking Carefully...... on our journey Eph. 5:15-21

What type of terrain do we find ourselves on today?

Rock Island State Park is a place I love to visit annually. We have made wonderful memories there.

The scenic beauty of this wooded park is dominated by the Great Falls of the Caney Fork River - an imposing limestone gorge (called a gulf in southern culture). It provides scenic overlooks, waterfalls and deep pools for fishing, rock-hopping and exploring. This is no casual stroll my friends. Getting to the various swimming holes, diving cliffs , and beautiful waterfalls requires slow, thoughtful, cautious steps. Beginning from the descent from the parking lot of steep steps hugging the rock wall going down into the gorge itself, your eyes are constantly focused at your feet and where you place them, in order to avoid losing your step and hurting yourself.
As I was in Sunday school discussing our text, I was reminded of maneuvering through the rocky terrain and the correlation between both. In Ephesians 5:15 it says.... See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise,. Circumspectly means to walk cautiously or carefully. Paul was urging us as Christians to pay attention to our behavior. His plea was for us to think before we act. This place we call earth is definitely "rough terrain" for those of us who claim that heaven is our home. It is full of slippery rocks of temptation, unstable rocks that when we trust them enough to put our full weight on them shift and leave us unbalanced and grasping for something secure to keep us from crashing down completely. This world is also full of places that, like Rock Island, require the hand of a friend to help us up and over to get where we are supposed to be. Balance is a requirement to make it through without slipping, in both life and at Rock Island.
How ridiculous would it be too see someone wearing high heels going rock hopping in a place like Rock Island? What about running carelessly, tripping, bleeding and continuing to run without regard to their body's condition? That would be the type of foolish Paul is referring to here. Only a fool would attempt to behave so carelessly without regard to the effect their behavior would have on themselves.
So as we are walking across this " rough terrain " of life together, toward our destination of heaven.... a place of joy and peace, may we first prepare ourselves with surrounding ourselves with helpful friends who will help us to get to our destination successfully , then prepare ourselves with the proper attire for our journey. Most importantly, as we set out on our journey may we take each step one at a time, focusing on what is immediately before us and think strategically before we put our full weight and commit to that next step. Let us not be foolish and careless as we walk toward our destination but may we all walk carefully so we may arrive knowing we made the most of our time and enjoyed the journey with the friends that took those steps with us and became part of the story that God was writing all along in our hearts.
